After the initial success of the PONS Dictionary, PONS Publishing decided to take a step further and explore a new path, where they can use years of experience and help their users to pick up vocabulary and to learn foreign languages even faster and more effectively. The key problem was that they had no idea where to start, and how to follow with the mobile app, that is why we came in again.
nomtek had developed both backend and native mobile frontend for the PONS Vocabulary Trainer app. The application remembers the words that have been looked up and allows the user to collect and practice the vocabulary needed. On top of that, the app integrated the words which the users have looked up in the dictionary then combines the search into its vocabulary app, so both apps communicate with each other.
Quickly after the release, PONS Vocabulary Trainer became the 2nd most popular PONS’s mobile app, with a couple of million downloads of the app.
Once again we have learned about undergoing digital transformation and expanding the digital strategy in print-first business. Again, we have been able to build a desirable and scalable mobile application that serves millions of users, and above all, it communicates with another flag application, of PONS.
